Ron Arad - Designer
Ron Arad is an israeli industrial designer, artist and architect.
“If I make a chair for production it has to be wanted by lots of people to justify the tooling costs. It has work to do. Pieces that don’t serve an immediate function have other things to negotiate with — art history, the invisible judges,” Arad says. “But I enjoy making things no-one needs and, it sometimes seems, that no-one can afford.”
He has created some very interesting products , alot including chairs we've I've shown a few of here. they are very peculiar shapes and like he said in the quote above they aren't really what anyone wants or needs in their house. he creates these designs for himself alot of the time, for the love of creating.
to me his designs are very futuristic looks to it. with no specific detail and one plain colour. the shapes he conducts slope in and out creating curves and adding dips and holes around the product.
Hes created some very crazy designs though including this bookshelf made in the shape of america and this bath/shower concept. a rotating cubicle which one way up it is a shower and the other way up is a bath. a very interesting product that minimises the waste of space in a bathroom, but would people really use it. the future looks more and more bizarre and people i think are set in their traditional ways, new technology will take time for people to adapt too, including bathroom technology.]
