Photographers Day 2

Corinne Day

I chose to look at Corinne Day as she is a fashion photographer and i am very interested in fashion and regularly look at magazines. now that i have looked at her i appreciate the work of photographers alot more in the magazines and look more into the photos.

She is famous for Photographing Kate Moss. All her photographs are different , including composition , model position, colours and effects. this is to portray each fashion piece in a different way or specific theme.
The backgrounds she uses are usually very simple but still portray a theme for the photo.
She uses lighting to create a more dramatic photo (top left photo) it emphaises the model and the structure of her face. this creates an impact on  the audience.
her work is to inspire an audience or attract an audience to the clothes or make up a model is wearing which i think she does very well sometimes in a grungy sort of way or unemotive way. i really like the way she uses backgrounds and would like to incorporate this into my work. (justaxposition)

Fay Godwin

Fay Godwin is a landscape photographer and is known for her black and white photographs of the rural landscape.

As you can tell from her pictures she regularly works in black and white, i think this is very tactical as it makes the audience not get distracted by any colour including the weather and focus on the landscape itself.

She seems to focus on the shapes and shadows of the landscapes, including fields and fences, stones and trees. there's circles , rectangles, triangles and reflections. it makes the landscapes look more exciting as people don't usually look at the countryside in a 'wow' kind of view.

i think the black and white also makes some images stand out against each other. for example (bottom left) the tree is very bold compared to the lake and the reflections in the background. there's different things to look at in the pictures which makes me want to look at them for longer so that i don't miss anything.

I really like her work as she is just showing what the countryside has to offer by itself with no effects or anything added to it. it shows that the world we live on is just as beautiful as the people and man made things.

Idris Kahn

Idris kahn is a very different photographer compared to everyone else i have looked at. With his Photographs he takes a series of pictures of an object, usually a building of some sort and then layers them on top of each other to create this effect above.

i think people will look at his work and think 'wow how on earth does he create these?' and that's whats so interesting about them and makes the audience look at them more closely, because not many photographers do this.

using black and white makes it look more simple as well as lots of colours might have made it look too messy. with all the shadow effects on the picture it makes it look quite ghost like to me and spooky. Im not sure this was what he was getting at but i think its quite a good effect.

I would love to try this effect out for myself by taking lots of photos and putting them on top of each other, maybe I could do it for something other than buildings and see if it works as well, still life objects or even people.
