Thomas Heatherwick - Designer

Thomas Heatherwick is an English designer and is recently well known for the works during the Olympics.
he designed the Olympic cauldron.

i loved the design of this cauldron and the idea of it rising up after its been lit, to me that emphaises the idea of athletes winning and rising to the top with glory.
the symmetry of the cauldron as its spread out makes a spectacular pattern which is very interesting to look at and definitely caught the eye of the audience of the Olympics.

one of Heatherwicks major projects came at Pacific Place, a shopping mall in Hong Kong with offices on top. his organisation had to make it more functional for the customers and make drastic improvements

the spiral pattern that is shown here i find amazing! people could just make plain old flat ceilings but here it looks like a work of art. the lines and shapes make light easier to flow into the room and create a brilliant masterpiece for customers to see. the lines make me follow them all the way across the room which can make the building look bigger.

A small project he produced was named Spun, this was using the process metal spinning.

this chair was in the collection, and interesting shape as it doesn't actually look like a chair to me, and if i saw it it would make me wonder what it was. the reflection of the metal and its surroundings create different shapes into the chair as well. I wouldn't particularly use this chair in my house though as it seems random.
